Do you allow yourself to receive love?


For some of us, it is easier and feels safer to give.


Why?


At an early age, many of us have been conditioned to “only take what you need” or “put others’ needs first.” Some have been hurt in romantic relationships. Or others are just so used to giving to their loved ones that it feels selfish to receive.



While it is the most noble of acts to give to others, it is the imbalance of one-sided giving (and not receiving) that creates a conditioning where many people feel shame, self-conscious or selfish receiving love, affection, compliments and caring.


I know a man who has such a hard time receiving anything. He is embarrassed by compliments. He has a hard time with physical affection. And he blocks caring and intimacy because he carries such shame and guilt that it is so uncomfortable for him to be vulnerable. While it must be uncomfortable for him, it must also be very uncomfortable for those trying to penetrate these walls. The woman who tried to love him ultimately gave up.


Even though the saying goes, “It is better to give than to receive,” I think if the person you are giving to isn’t receptive, it becomes a lose-lose situation. Do you agree?


Everything in nature seeks balance. If you just give all the time, there is no balance. A tree needs to receive nutrients from the soil to then be able to grow to its fullest potential and give oxygen to the planet.


We do not call the tree selfish or self-serving when it receives the nutrients it needs to thrive.


But you may be saying, “Marci, it has to have those things to physically survive.”


While I agree with this, we also need to physically receive love, affection and caring to survive too. Babies who do not receive these often weigh less than babies who don’t. There is a clinical name for this- failure to thrive.


Unfortunately, as we get older, we feel we don’t need or deserve this anymore. But in reality, we need it so much more.

Energy Healing Toolkit Sacred Receiving



“Sacred Receiving is the act of letting things in with heartfelt gratitude.” – John Amodeo


Use this exercise to balance the flow of giving and receiving energy from your Heart Chakra.


1) Call in your angels and guides and ask for assistance by saying, “I request help from my angels and guides to balance the giving and receiving energies in my Heart Chakra.


2) Imagine yourself standing in a beautiful mountain setting. See yourself knee deep in a gently moving river or stream of water.


3) See in your mind’s eye, your body turning upstream. Feel the river of water energy flowing to you as you say aloud, “I receive love, appreciation, affection and compliments easily and effortlessly.” Take a moment to actually feel gratitude for receiving the flow to you.


4) Now visualize yourself turning your body downstream. Feel the river of water energy flowing away from you as you say aloud, “I give love, appreciation, affection and compliments easily and effortlessly.” Take a moment to actually feel gratitude for giving the flow away.


5) Now turn upstream again and repeat Step Number 3.


6) Now turn downstream again and repeat Step Number 4.


7) Repeat this exercise five times for both receiving and giving.


8) Put your hands over your heart and say, “I open my heart to sacred receiving and do so with heartfelt gratitude. I receive and give love, appreciation, affection and compliments easily and effortlessly. My Heart Chakra is now balanced in giving and receiving energies. And so it is.”
